Vonage Fax
Thinking that you might want to fax using Vonage? Here is a step by step plan to get you setup with Vonage fax.
Step 1.
Setup your Vonage line with the proper phone adaptor.
Step 2.
Plug a phone cord (rj45) from your fax machine over to the green phone port on your Vonage modem. If you only have one line with Vonage, then you have to plug into the phone port.
One way to eliviate this is to add an A/B switch box between your phone and fax machine. The other option is to swap them out when you want to send a fax. Not fun.
If you have purchased a second Vonage line, dedicated to faxing, then you plug your fax machine into Phone Port 2 of your vonage router.
Step 3. You send faxes just like normal.
UPDATE! – Since Vonage started sending faxes, they have claimed that all faxes are reliable and there were no problems. Unfortunately, a few lawsuits have proven otherwise.
You see, fax needs a ‘real-time’ connection in order to transmit documents. Voice calls can drop a little here and there and both parties might notice or maybe they don’t. When you send a fax, if the line drops even a little, this causes the fax to generate an error.
On Vonage’s website they suggest buying a high-end fax machine that can be custom configured to work at a super low baud rate.
This seems a little over the top, just to send a fax through vonage. For the same price that they charge ($9.99/mo), you can get double the pages through RingCentral.
Sending faxes through an online carrier allows your transmissions to be moved through email. Email uses a different packet system, keeping your faxes intact until they reach their recipient.
If your thinking you might want to have a look at their offer, you can try RingCentral free for 30 days right now.
Good luck on your faxing and I will update this page as I have more information.
