Google Voice Fax![]() By Matt Gerchow Despite growing demand emanating from chat rooms everywhere for this type of service, it does not seem like the Internet monolith is going to budge, leaving those in need to fend for themselves. This explains independent efforts on the part of techno gurus and many others to find a way. From the many incarnations of Google Voice Fax, here are the sure steps to send a fax 1) There is no need for a fax machine or telephone line, all you need is a Webmail account like Googles Gmail. Hence, log in to your Gmail account if you have one if not, go get one. 2) Go through the motions of composing an ordinary email account, except that for the email address field of the email, this pattern of code should be used, remote-printer.recipient_namefax_number.iddd.tpc.int 3) Now, do not tinker with the first part of the code, i.e., remote-printer. Rather, replace the second part with the name of the person who will receive the fax. For the space between the first and the last name, be sure to put an underscore. 4) After the sign, enter the fax number of the recipient. For North America, this should be preceded with 1 followed by the area code and finally, the rest of the phone number. For international destinations, be sure to substitute 1 with 011. Also, do not forget to follow up the number string with the country code and the city code before typing the rest of the phone number. 5) Be sure to put a period after entering all the numbers. Do not forget the iddd.tpc.int, which shows that the free facilities of TPC, The Phone Company are being used to route the fax. Be sure to check the availability of the service for the fax destination involved by going to the website. Surely, one could use Gmails built-in phone interface to send the fax, but at this point, some users have experienced certain difficulties because of the technologys infancy. In addition, at its current stage, in order to utilize the real Google voice fax, the user will need an actual phone line and fax machine that can be too much of a hassle, as the whole reason for going through this route is to avoid costs such as long distance. 6) At this point, it is all a matter of filling up the subject and the message fields where the last field represents the fax message itself. Now, feel free to send the fax like a regular email message. An email will later be sent to the fax sender to confirm if the operation was successful or not. As users around the world await Google's response, thus far, following the methodology for this cost-free if ad hoc Google voice fax is the best way to go. |
